CFP: Legal Writing, Reasoning & Research — “Why Law Matters”– AALS mtg — San Francisco, CA

AALS Annual Meeting 2017

The AALS Section on Legal Writing, Reasoning and Research is seeking proposals for the 2017 AALS Annual Meeting that is scheduled for January 3-7, 2017 in San Francisco, California. The Section on Legal Writing, Reasoning and Research (LWRR) is seeking proposals for the following session at the annual meeting. The deadline for proposals is Monday, May 23, 2016 The session is described below.

Call for Proposals on a Topic Related to the “Why Law Matters” Conference Theme; scheduled for Saturday, January 7, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

The LWRR Section is also seeking proposals for a second slot, also an hour and forty-five minutes, on any topic related to the theme of this year’s annual meeting, “Why Law Matters.”  The Program Committee generally prefers proposals that appeal to a wide range of conference participants, including not only members of our community, but also participants from other disciplines within the legal academy.  Additionally, we prefer programs with multiple presenters, particularly ones that showcase the work of legal writing faculty, although it can also be very helpful to include non-legal writing faculty, depending on the topic.  We also welcome participation by faculty of different experience levels, and we prefer dynamic sessions where the members of the panel interact with each other and the audience.

Please submit your proposal by email to Mary Bowman, Program Committee Co-Chair, at bowmanm1@seattleu.edu.  Please use Microsoft Word or the equivalent, but do not use PDF.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Mary at the email address above or at 206.398.4019.

The program length is one hour and forty-five minutes.  We would like to see a mix of legal writing and non-legal writing presenters in this session.  Your proposal can cover the entire time period with other presenters, or you can propose to cover a specific part of the panel discussion for a designated amount of time, and the LWRR Section Program Committee can put together the full panel.
