CFP: Capitalism, Antitrust, and Democracy – Philadelphia, PA

The Law and Society Program at Philadelphia University and The Antitrust Bulletin invite paper submissions for presentation at a symposium on Capitalism, Antitrust, and Democracy on Saturday, November 8, 2014.

The symposium will feature academic papers that analyze the connections, conflicts, and synergies of antitrust laws with the philosophies and practices of capitalism and/or democracy. We are interested in papers that examine how antitrust laws and practices have evolved in response to capitalistic pressures and democratic tendencies in countries around the world. Papers can also explore the impact that antitrust laws and regulations have exerted on capitalism and democracy. We are also equally interested in papers that address the ethical issues that arise at the nexus of capitalism, antitrust, and democracy. Papers may adopt any methodological approach and may focus on one or multiple countries. Note that we do not accept submissions that are technically detailed legal reviews of recent antitrust cases, enforcement actions, or antitrust regulations.

Deadline: June 6, 2014 im

Papers presented at the symposium will be considered for publication in a Special Issue of The Antitrust Bulletin scheduled for 2015. Please indicate in your proposal whether you would be interested in submitting your manuscript for possible publication in the Special Issue. Symposium attendees, including presenters, are required to pay a registration fee that will be tiered according to academic status (discounted for students). The registration fee must be paid prior to attending the conference.

Please direct all inquiries and submissions (MS Word format) to Dr. Raju Parakkal, Assistant Professor of International Relations, Philadelphia University, at the following email ID: parakkalr[@]philau.edu.
