Campbell Law Review presents One City at a Time: The Role and Increasing Presence of Chapter 9 Municipal Bankruptcies on October 17, 2014.
This Symposium will explore the conditions that give rise to the financial crises facing local governments, the current climates and potential solutions. Although Chapter 9 authorizes municipal bankruptcy, the ultimate decision on whether to permit municipalities to file Chapter 9 bankruptcy lies with the states. As a greater number of municipalities file for bankruptcy, new issues are raised, including the traditional safety of municipal bonds, the role of international bondholders and their increasing presence, and repayment priority among creditors, employees, and investors. The Symposium will bring together preeminent scholars, judges, legal practitioners, and local government officials, who will provide a platform for discussion on the outlook of financial conditions for localities, as well as the trend of Chapter 9 municipal bankruptcies.
The Campbell Law Review invites abstract submissions of 150 to 200 words from legal scholars, legal practitioners and judges. Abstracts and proposals for panel presentations on issues related to this topic, as well as the author or presenter’s resume, should be submitted, no later than May 1, 2014, to Scottie Beth Forbes, Editor in Chief, Campbell Law Review culawreview[@]email.campbell.edu. im
