The Oklahoma Supreme Court and the Sovereignty Symposium, Inc. will host The Sovereignty Symposium XXVII, June 4-5, 2014, at Oklahoma Citys Skirvin Hotel.
Because the sovereignty of Native American tribes can serve as a pattern internationally, the focus of the Twenty-Seventh Sovereignty Symposium will be Tribal Nations-Global Impact. We are featuring the artwork of Dr. Dick West, and his painting Cheyenne Warrior Woman. We have two international keynote speakers who are Warrior Women in their own right, The Right Honorable Beverley McLachlin, P.C., Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada and Baroness Emma Nicholson of Winterbourne, Life Peer of the House of Lords of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, our keynote speaker in 2011.
Law students are invited to submit papers to the Chief Justice John B. Doolin writing competition. The three winning papers are published in the annual Symposium book of materials on Indian Law. The Symposium also awards the Hargrave Prize of $1,500, $1,000 and $750.00 for the best three original and unpublished papers submitted by faculty or other legal scholars. The deadline is May 1, 2014. For details, see Hargraveprize2014
