Globalizing Secured Credit Law: Current Problems, New Directions, at the Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego, California on November 9-10, 2007.
Participants will include several leading figures in the movement towards global harmonization of the laws governing secured transactions such as Neil Cohen of Brooklyn Law School, Spyridon Bazinas of UNCITRAL, Boris Kozolchyk of the University of Arizona, and Roderick MacDonald of McGill, as well as some dissenting voices. The conference will bring together academics, international experts and practitioners to discuss the important policy issues in unifying secured credit law, the efforts of UNCITRAL, the OAS and other international organizations to draft model legislation, new developments in the secured transactions of several countries including Japan, China, France, the U.K. and Australia, and concerns about choice of law, treatment of consumers and the relationship to insolvency legislation.
